Southern Elite, USP3 Teams Impress NCAA Scouts at USPHL Showcase

Marlborough, MA – The Inaugural USPHL Southern Showcase wrapped up today at the New England Sports Center after three tense days of action. Over one hundred scouts were on hand to see the best of the Elite and USP3 Southern Divisions as the teams made their early season statements.

In Elite Division action, the Carolina Eagles emerged as the only remaining undefeated team when the games closed. The week started off with a 3-2 overtime win over the Charlotte Rush on Tuesday. Wednesday saw the Eagles edge the Palm Beach Hawks in OT before skating past Tampa Bay 3-1 in the late game. A 4-1 win on Thursday over the Florida Eels rounded out a perfect trip up north.

After the loss in their first game, the Charlotte Rush turned things around in a big way, defeating the Florida Eels late on Tuesday, nipping the Hampton Roads Whalers 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday, and finishing with a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Jr. Knights on Thursday.

Hampton Roads picked up seven points in Marlborough, thanks to wins over Palm Beach, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta.

The Richmond Jr. Generals had a fine showing with a 3-1 record. The Generals started off with a 2-1 overtime win over the Eels on Tuesday. Wednesday saw the only blemish on their weekend; a loss to Atlanta in the morning, before they regrouped for a win over Palm Beach in their late game. A 4-2 win over Tampa Bay capped off their week.

Atlanta also picked up a win over the Potomac Patriots on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay and the Eels each picked up wins on Wednesday, and Potomac closed the weekend with a 3-2 overtime win over Palm Beach.

In the only Northern Division game on the docket, the Junior Bruins downed the Bay State Breakers on Wednesday.

In USP3HL action, the Carolina Eagles made the biggest splash in Marlborough, going 4-0. Tuesday saw the Eagles get by the Florida Eels 3-1. A tense 4-3 win over the Islanders Hockey Club was the result on Wednesday, and they downed the Springfield Pics on Thursday morning before defeating the Junior Bruins to close out their week.

Despite the opening loss, the Eels had a great showing, picking up wins over the Bruins on Wednesday and the Richmond Jr. Generals on Thursday.

In their other action, Richmond knocked off the Bruins and Islanders, but fell to the Palm Beach Hawks in overtime Thursday morning.

Palm Beach also bagged a win over Springfield on Tuesday.

The Charlotte Rush regrouped from an opening loss to the Islanders and picked up four points by defeating the Bruins and the Springfield Pics.
