On Sunday the Florida Eels Elite down the Tampa Juniors in game two with an OT win 4-3. The Eels defeated Tampa at home on Saturday afternoon 6-3. In today’s contest the Eels traveled to Ellenton Florida to conclude their home and away series. The Eels once again played a very discipline game with only 3 minor infractions. The Eels penalty kill once again came up strong denying Tampa’s strong power play. Tampa also played a very discipline game only having two minor penalties but the Eels did score on one going 50% on the Power play. Last night the Eels went 60% on the PP.

In the first period the Eels were the only team who got on the scoreboard. Scoring for the Eels in period one was:

29 Nikita Lopatin (even strength) (19 Michael Gennello and Sven Nillson

In period 2 Tampa scored 3 goals and the Eels scored 2 bringing the game to a 3-3 tie. For the Eels it was:
9 Clayton Boyd (power play) (54 Jordan Court and Brian Kozek
9 Clayton Boyd (even strength) (54 Jordan Court)

In the 3rd the game remained scoreless bringing the game into OT. The Eels and Tampa played 3 on 3 until the Eels caught a penalty bringing it to 4 skaters for Tampa to 3 for the Eels. It was a real nail biter. The Eels once again shut down the Tampa Juniors power play and resumed 3 on 3 action. Then 29 Nikita Lopatin brought the puck deep into the Tampa zone and blew by 2 Tampa players and made an incredible move pulling the goalie across the crease and beat him clearly. Lopatin’s goal was assisted by Jordan Court.

Nolan Greene played another strong game turning away 50 of 53 shots
for a .943 Save %.

This was another two goal event for Clayton Boyd and Nikita Lopatin. Clayton is 5th in scoring overall in the league. He garnered 9 points in the last 4 games.

This two game sweep plus last Sunday’s huge win over Atlanta brings the Eels moved from 7th place to 6th place overall in the Southern Conference. Keep in mind that 1 point is the difference between Tampa and the Eels – Tampa has 14 to the Eels is 13. Not Atlanta has 15 so 2 points separate the Eels from 4th place. This is a very tight race in the Southern Conference ad every weekend it will come down to good old fashion barnburner battles.
