The Florida Eels always has placed education first in the development of its players. The operative word in college hockey is “College”.So many programs lose site of this fact.

Without gaining ‘admission’ to college you cannot play mens college hockey. It seems obvious but for many it is a secondary consideration in their quest to play at the Next Level. The Eels have many components in advancing their players on to college hockey. We have done quite well over the years with 175 alumni players who have advanced to college hockey. In fact we moved 25 last season. That is truly remarkable for any Junior team let alone a Tier III program from Florida.

Those are not simply bald staticsics.. Those are “players” – they are Individuals not inanimate objects. We are not moving cargo. These are Individuals who are very important to all of us at the Eels. We take the time to learn our guys on and off the ice. We get to know their character traits their personalties and family life. We know that not all players come to us with equal abilities Many are strong academic as students. Others struggle on test taking or with grades in high school. There is much work to do with these young men. Sometimes it means enrolling in community colleges to show colleges that they can do college level classes. Sometimes they need a year or two in college and gain inanimate as a transfer student. Some times it means enrolling in PG courses in local Prep Schools. Other instances, we help them select a SAT ACT prep course. For some players on line courses is enough. For many others they need teach instruction and tutoring to score higher on the standardize college test. That is where SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER comes into play. They have a proven track record and are recognized and certified experts in Test Taking. We looked at their program and are quite impressed. The last two seasons they helped a number of our players significantly increase their scores. The Florida Eels have partnered with SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER as a vehicle for our players to advance their scores. It is not mandatory by no means. It is just another option and tool to assist our players to reach their goal and mission. As GM Frank Scarpaci echoes "it is not enough to have a dream or goal. You have to take concrete and specific steps to reach and realize those goals. It is hard work indeed.. that is life. Nothing comes easy. But boy is it worth it.”
